Oliver Maclaren
I’m a Senior Lecturer in Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Auckland. I work on mathematical and computational models and how we learn from data, with a particular focus on identifiability analysis and uncertainty quantification. Applications include biological systems, disease dynamics, composite materials, and geothermal reservoir modelling.
Research
Notes and writing
Open learning material contains some teaching material on inverse problems and learning from data, engineering machine learning, dynamical systems, differential equations, probability, Markov processes, and more.
Not a Research Blog is an archive of some old blog musings on math, statistical inference and philosophical topics.
Code and experiments
I develop tools for using coding agents in scientific computing and teaching.
Teaching games
- Gradient Surfers — ENGSCI 205 — a running game for revising machine learning concepts and PyTorch code.
- Regularisation Run — ENGSCI 721 — a snowboarding game for revising inverse problems and regularisation.
